Distracted Boyfriend history (read more...)
The Distracted Boyfriend meme, one of the most universally used memes in circulation, is alternatively known as Man Looking at Other Woman. It is a stock photo taken by Antonio Guillem that has been exploited to the fullest using object labeling. The original image shows a man turning around to suggestively check out a woman who has just passed while his girlfriend looks at him in shock and disgust. The meme is used to describe situations where someone prefers something, usually not the best option, over the safer/better/easier one. Alternatively, it is also used in the same context as Drake Approves/Disapproves or Left Exit 12 Off Ramp.
The original stock image was uploaded to the stock photo website iStock back in November 2015, but it wouldn’t become a meme until January 2017. The popularity of the meme snowballed, and soon people started finding overstock images with similar themes that starred the same models and making memes from them as well. The meme was so successful that it even won Meme of the Year for 2017 at the 10th annual Shorty Awards. The Distracted Boyfriend meme is also (sometimes erroneously) referred to as: Guy looking at other girl, man looking at other woman, guy looking at girl while girlfriend angry, girlfriend angry at guy checking out hot girl, guy checking out passing woman, boyfriend looking at another girl while passing.
