L.A. Noire "Doubt"/Press X To Doubt

The L.A. Noire “Doubt” or Press X To Doubt meme is taken from the neo-noir detective video game L.A. Noire, released on May 17th, 2011 by Rockstar Games. It is set in the 1940s Los Angeles featuring detective Cole Phelps. The meme is derived from the scene where after each interrogation of a witness, the player is given three options : to either deem it as Truth or Lie or Doubt it. In the controller the player had to press X to choose the option of doubt and hence a format was created from it, showing the detectives with a look of disbelief in his face. It is used as a reaction image to express doubt in the above caption or image. As a means of showing disbelief, the image circulated across FunnyJunk several times throughout the entire 2013. In the upcoming years, variants of the meme could be spotted on Tumblr and Reddit and it later became more popular after the release of its Coaxed into a Snafu variants. The L.A. Noire “Doubt” / Press X To Doubt meme is also (sometimes erroneously) referred to as: L.A noire doubt meme, press x to doubt meme, L.A. noire X meme, Press X meme, detective Cole Phelps meme.
