I Ain't Exactly / But I Ain't Exactly

The I Ain’t Exactly / But I Ain’t Exactly meme features a stock image of a cartoon figure titled “Cartoon Illustration of Funny Mischievous Guy Character”, drawn by artist Igor Zakowski sometime around 2014. Although the original picture shows an orange cartoon, the format shows a fully green version of it where the character is rubbing its hands with a malicious grin. It is used as a phrasal template with the caption “I ain’t exactly x but I ain’t exactly x”, to imply a sarcastic confusion about someone’s current state or the like. The template was first uploaded to a subreddit on August 9th, 2019. However, the meme did not go viral until January 2021, when it was first posted on Twitter. In the following months, it gained significant popularity across those sites as well as on Instagram. The I Ain’t Exactly / But I Ain’t Exactly meme is also (sometimes erroneously) referred to as: i ain’t exactly meme, mischievous guy character meme, funny mischievous character meme, green guy i ain’t exactly meme.
